Purley Way Lido operated from 1935 to 1979 and in its heyday welcomed 9,000 visitors per annum. International Water Polo matches were played here with the competitors often flying into Croydon Airport and crossing the road to the lido. The diving board is Grade 2 listed and has survived even though the site firstly became a garden centre and is now being further re-developed.
